Bones Of Skull Flashcards
Bones of calvarium
Cranial roof comprised of formal occipital and two parietal bones
Bones of the cranial base
Cranial base comprised od six bones
Frontal , sphenoid , ethmoid , occipital, parietal and temporal
The articulated with atlas and facial bone and mandibula jaw
Tempormondibular joint
Its only moveble joint in this whole
Suture
Is an immobile joint bye adjacent bone of skull
Frontal bone
Is shell shaped unpaired flat bone of skull located the forehead
Frontal bones consist of six main parts
Squamous, nasal, two orbital, two zygomatic plates
Metopic suture
Separate the two frontal bone and is the first skull sutur to close physiologically its disappear at 8 years
Parietal bone
Are bilateral skull bone that form the superior and lateral walls of the cranium and slightly curved has quadrilateral shape
Occipital bone
Is most posterior superior bone of meurocranim
Hypoglossal canal
Containing the hypoglossal nerve is located at the bases of the occipital condyles
Occipital condole and external occipital protuberance, foramen magnum
Formen magnum: where it’s connected the spinal cord
Occipital condyle articulate with superior articular facets on lateral masses of the atlas
Ext occipital protuberance: attachment for the trapezius muscle
Temporal bone
Zygomatic: forms the posterior portion of the zygomatic arch
Squamous part ; bone articulated with the sphenoid anterior and partietal bone lateral
Tympanic part
Styloid process acts as attachment point for muscle and ligaments
Sphenoid bone
Unpaired bone sits anterior in cranium and continues to the middle cranial fossa
It has multiple openings for blood and nerves
Sphenoid consist of four part
Greater wing extend from the bone body in later superior and posterior direction
Lester wing separated the anterior cranial fossa from middle cranial fossa
Ethmoid bone
Small unpaired bone locoted in the midline of anterior cranium
Consist of three the cribiform perorndicular ethmoidal labyrinth
