Ventilation Techniques Flashcards
Name the differnt types of advanced airways that may be used in resuscitation?
- Laryngeal mask
- supraglottic airway device
- endotracheal tube
What is compression rate for an adult with an advanced airway in place?
100 - 120/min
Do you need to pause during compressions to give breaths when an advanced airway is in place?
No
What is the breath rate for adults, children and infants who have an advanced airway in place?
10 breaths per minute
What is the rate of rescue breathing given to an adult?
1 breath every 5 to 6 seconds, about 10-12/min
Whata is the rate of rescue breathing given to an child under 8 or infant?
1 breath every 3 to 5 seconds; 12 to 20/min
When do you start CPR on an infant or child when providing rescue breathing?
When you notice signs of poor perfusion despie adquate rescue breathing
What are symptoms of respiratory arrest?
unresponsiveness, not breathing or only gasping but still has apulse
When delivering a breath in mouth-to-mouth rescusitation how deep should the breath you take be?
Normal breath, not deep
What if the chest does not rise when giving a breath
repeat the head tilt-chin-lift and try again.
What do you do if you are unable to get the chest to rise?
Promptly return to chest compressions
What two techniques of rescusitationi might you use on an infant if no bag mask is available?
Mouth-to-mouth OR
Mouth-to-mouth-and-nose - PREFERRED
If deliving mouth-to-mouth-and-nose breaathing to an infant does not make the chest rise what should you do?
Repeat the head-tilt-chin-lift
May need to reposition the head several times
What are the risks of delivering breaths too quickly or with too much force?
Air can enter the stomach causing gastric inflation
How to reduce the risk of gastric inflation
- deliver each breath over 1 second
- deliver just enough air to make chest rise
