Vent Exam Flashcards
What kind of Modes are on the vents?
AC (Assist control) and SIMV (synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation)
What type of breath types are there on the vent?
Volume and Pressure
What is AC ventilation mode?
Assist control, Takes away work of breathing, easier control of ventilations, specific amount of breath is given.
What is SIMV mode on vent?
Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation. More comfortable for spontaneously breathing patients. Gives breath if patient does not take the spontaneously breath or pushes off the next breath if they do take a spontaneous breath
Cons of AC mode?
Can cause breath stacking and barotrauma, Asynchrony
Cons of SIMV mode?
Pressure support must be titrated to help remove work of breathing.
What is a volume controlled breath type?
A tidal volume is set based on ideal body weight. 6-8 cc/kg
What is a pressure control breath?
A pressure you wish the breath reaches
What is the ideal pressures for pressure control breaths?
Ideally 15-25 but should not exceed 30 to avoid trauma.
What does Spf stand for?
Total number of spontaneous respirations
What does f stand for?
Frequency the total number of breaths the patient has received
What does PEEP stand for and mean?
Positive End Expiratory Pressure, Keeps alveoli open and improves oxygenation
What does FIO2 stand for and mean?
Fraction of Inspired Oxygen, the percentage of oxygen being administered to the patient.
I-time means and stands for?
Inspiratory time, the amount of time a machine controlled breath will take to be delivered.
Normal I-Time for adults, adolescents, toddler/school age, infant?
Adult: 1 second, Adolescents: 0.7 seconds, Toddler: 0.5 second, Infant: 0.3 seconds.
