What are the common examination findings?
A
Ulcers on medial malleolus
Ulcer characteristics:
- Painless
- CRT normal
- Ill defined and shallow
- Slough
- Varicose veins/Varicose eczema/lipodermatosclerosis/haemosiderin deposits

What are the investigations?
A
To finish the exam i would like to - ABPI, cardivascular exam
By the bed - History and obs.
Bloods - FBC, blood glucose, lipid profile
other - Doppler, swab and refer for surgery

What are the key investigation findings?
A
Depends where the varicose veins are:
SFJ
Superficial or deep

What is the treatment?
A
Conservative - Explain what they are
Medical - Stockings
Surgical - Refer to vascular surgeon - Tie or strip

What are the common causes?
A
Primary:
- Idiopathic
- Congenital
Secondary:
Anything obstructing flow:
- Obesity, valvular imcompetence, pregnancy, pelvic neoplasm
