What is the purpose of traffic stops?
1) correct poor and dangerous driving
2) educate on safe traffic movement

What are the four positions of contact?
1) behind driver side door post
2) in front if drivers exterior rear view mirror
3) behind passengers side door post
4) in front of passengers door post
What are the two disadvantages of a lone officer on a high risk stop?
1) officer cannot safely remove or control occupants of high risk vehicle
2) one officer does not have the psychological advantage that 2 or more officers have
What should you consider when choosing the suspects position of disadvantage?
Degree of threat
Road surface
Weather conditions
Temperature of road surface
What are safe positions for writing citations?
1) sitting partially in or standing at passenger door
2) at vehicle rear quarter panel
3) standing on sidewalk/ shoulder off to side
If the violator gets out of their car…?
Attempt to persuade violator to return to their car
If they refuse, don’t over react or become hostile

What is the difference from high risk stop vs unknown risk stops?
High risk: danger is known or suspected
Maximize officer safety, bring suspects to you
Unknown: stop is unknown
