What are two important requirements for cars to be able to drive on NSW roads?
The vehicle must be registered and have Roads and Maritime issued number plates on the front & back
What are the requirements for selling a car privately?
You must have it inspected and give an inspection report less than 1 month old to the prospective buyer
What are the rules regarding number plates?
The number plate must be issued by Roads and Maritime and permanently fixed to the vehicle
Able to be seen and read clearly from anywhere within a 45 degree arc of the vehicle’s centreline, at a distance of at least 20 metres
Clearly readable – not dirty, worn or damaged
Given back to Roads and Maritime after the registration has expired
The rear number plate must have a light so it is clearly visible at night

Your vehicle’s tyres must be in good condition and have a tread at least 1.5 mm deep across the tread surface
Keep the tyres inflated to the pressure recommended by the manufacturer or they may overheat and fail

What determines the penalty for speeding?
How many kilometres over the speed limit the driver was going
What happens if a driver is going between 30-45km/h over the speed limit?
A minimum of five demerit points, a large fine and your licence will be suspended for at least three months
What happens if a driver is going 45km/h or more over the speed limit?
A minimum of six demerit points, a larger fine and your licence will be suspended for at least six months.

Driving or attempting to drive under the influence of alcohol or any other drugs
