What are speed limits?
Speed limits tell you the maximum speed you are allowed to drive in good conditions
What is the default urban speed limit?
50km/h
What is the default speed limit for non-urban roads?
100km/h
What are regulatory speed limits?
It is illegal to drive faster than the limit posted
What are advisory speed limits?
Indicate the recommended maximum speed in good driving conditions for the average car
What happens in areas without speed signs?
Default speed limits apply and you must drive to the conditions
What is a local traffic area?
An area of local streets that has a speed limit of 40km/h
What is a shared traffic zone?
A street shared by pedestrians, cyclists and other vehicles that has a speed limit of 10km/h
What happens when a work site displays a speed limit sign?
The limit is enforceable and must be obeyed
What is the school zone limit and when does it apply?
The 40km/h limit applies on gazzetted school days and during the times shown on the sign
What is the school bus stop zone limit and when does it apply?
The 40km/h limit applies when a bus with flashing rear orange lights is driving between the signs
What does a bus flashing orange lights signify?
That they are picking up or setting down schoolchildren - don’t drive faster than 40km/h
Is a learner or provisional driver allowed to drive after consuming any product containing alcohol?
No

It is illegal for them to drive without wearing. seatbelt or to carry passengers without a seatbelt
