Vector Control Flashcards
Name the DoD for Pest Management Program; explain what it does
DoDI 4150.07
-implements policy, assigns responsibilities, and prescribes procedures for the DoD IPMP
Name the AFMAN for Integrated Pest Management Program (IPMP); explain what it does
AFMAN 32-1053; Defines civil engineering’s pest management mission
-also addresses PH and BEE’s role in pest management
Name the AFI for medical entomology
AFI 48-102
Name the federal regulation governing the registration of pesticides.
7 US Code, 136
The key document that ties together all of the installation’s plans, programs and tactics, techniques, and procedures to execute an effective pest management program
Installation Pest Management Plan (IPMP)
An approach to pest management that takes into consideration all aspects of an infestation and drives to eliminate source of infestation versus battling the symptoms
Integrated Pest Management
IPM includes what methods?
1) Education
2) Biological control
3) Cultural control
4) Mechanical control
5) Chemical control
Pests include what?
Arthropods, birds, rodents, nematodes, fungi, bacteria, viruses, algae, snails, marine bores, snakes, weeks
Pests adversely effect what?
Readiness, military operations, and the well-being of personnel and animals
Pests attack or damage these things:
Real property
Supplies
Equipment
Vegetation
Discuss IPMP development and review
Development: developed by the installation pest management coordinator (IPMC) and must list pest management program objectives according to potential or actual impact on mission and readiness. Review is annual by the IPMC, CES/CC, and entomologist (aka pest management consultant); it is completely reviewed and formally coordinated every 5 years
Who is involved with the complete review and coordination of the IPMP every 5 years?
- Natural Resources manager
- Env coordinator
- PHO
- BE
- CES/CC–>MSG/CC–>Wg/CC
- MAJCOM pest management consultant (aka entomologist)
IPMP has to ensure what?
- Vector surveillance data is coordinated with PH, documented, and recorded electronically
- *Full pesticide and equipment inventory
- *Considerations for the geographic location
- *Shop roster with license numbers
- *Pest profiles on each pest/vector and how they are controlled
- *Safety/spill procedures
- *Contracts
IPMP sections/content PHOs should review at a minimum:
- Identification of all relevant PH (med sig) pests
- surveillance methods and frequency
- Surveillance data reporting procedures
- vector surveillance thresholds
- control methods in medical, food and child care facilities
- Privatized housing surveillance/control
- Contracted pest control services
