Vasculature of the heart Flashcards
Where does the aorta come form?
Left ventricle of the heart
Where does the superior vena cava come from?
From the left and right brachiocephalic veins merging
Where does the pulmonary artery come from?
Right ventricle
What does the superior vena cava do?
Carry oxygen-poor blood to the right atrium, where it moves into the right ventricle and then to the lungs to trade in carbon dioxide for oxygen.
What does the aorta do?
The aorta is the main artery that carries blood away from your heart to the rest of your body.
What does the pulmonary artery do?
The pulmonary arteries carry blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs.
What do pulmonary veins do?
Transfer freshly oxygenated blood from the lungs to the left atria of the heart
List the arteries and veins on the posterior surface of the heart going from left to right
Right coronary artery Right marginal artery Left anterior descending artery Left coronary artery Left marginal artery
Coronary sinus which gives off:
Great cardiac vein Left marginal vein Left posterior ventricular vein Middle cardiac vein Small cardiac vein
What does the left circumflex artery do?
Supplies left atrium and left ventricle
Where does the left circumflex artery originate from?
Arises from the bifurcation of the left main coronary artery
Where does the left anterior descending artery originate from?
Arises from the bifurcation of the left main coronary artery
What two major coronary arteries that arise from the bifurcation of the left main coronary artery?
Circumflex artery
Left anterior descending artery
What does the left anterior descending artery do?
Supplies the right ventricle, left ventricle, and interventricular septum
What does the left marginal artery do?
Supplies the left ventricle
Where does the left marginal artery originate?
The left marginal artery of the heart is a branch of the circumflex artery
