Arterial Supply, Venous and Lymphatic Drainage Flashcards
What supplies the heart with blood?
The heart is supplies by the left and right coronary arteries and their anastomosing branches
What drains the blood?
The blood is drained by the cardiac veins almost entirely into the coronary sinus which in turn feeds into the right atrium
What are the two grooves of the heart?
Atrioventricular groove
Anterior interventricular groove
What lies in the Atrioventricular groove and where is it located?
Coronary sinus
Between the right ventricle and atrium
What lies in the anterior interventricular groove and where is it located?
The great cardiac vein
Between the left and right ventricle
What does the anterior interventricular groove become?
The anterior interventricular groove continues onto the diaphragmatic surface of the heart where it is now called the posterior interventricular groove.
What part of the aorta are aortic sinuses found?
Ascending aorta
What are the two main branches given off the right coronary artery?
Right marginal artery
Posterior intervenntricular artery
What are the two main branches given off the left coronary artery?
Circumflex artery
Anterior descending interventricular artery
The coronary arteries are end arteries (aka terminal artery).
What are end arteries?
Only supply oxygenated blood to a portion of tissue.
What does the LCA supply?
Anterior interventricular artery - interventricular septum & anterior walls of both ventricles
Circumflex artery - left atrium & posterior walls of left ventricle
What does the LCA supply?
Marginal artery - lateral right side of heart (incl. right atrium)|
Posterior interventricular artery - posterior right ventricular walls
What is the role of cardiac veins?
Carry blood with low oxygen from the myocardium to right atrium
Where do the main cardiac veins of the heart lie?
Alongside the coronary arteries in the coronary and interventricular grooves.
Most of the blood of the coronary veins return to the right atrium through the coronary sinus
Heart veins that go into the coronary sinus
Great cardiac vein
Middle cardiac vein
Small cardiac vein
