Vascular Diseases and Neoplasms Flashcards
Non-inflammatory vascular disorders
varicose veins, Raynaud’s
Inflammatory vascular disorders
temporal arteritis, polyarteritis nodosa, kawasaki’s, takayasu’s, buerger’s
Cardiovascular neoplasms
Hemangioma, Kaposi’s, Cardiac myxoma
Varicose Veins
dilated tortuous superficial veins
Raynauds
arterial spasm from cold or emotions, treat with prevention
Temporal Arteritis
granuloma formation in med-lg arteries, associated with rheumatica, treat with corticosteroids
Polyarteritis Nodosa
Type 3 immune response causing stenosis and infarct. Associated with Hep B
Kawaski Disease
systemic necrotizing vasculitis of small-med arteries. Seen in children with mucosal lesions and strawberry tongue, self limiting treat with IVIG and aspirin
Takayasu’s Arteritis
granulmatous thickening of med-lg arteries, seen in women <40, treat with corticosteroids
Buergers Disease
acute inflammation of peripheral sm-med arteries caused by SMOKING
Hemangioma
proliferation of endothelium creating vascular channels
Myxoma
benign primitive neoplasm of primitive CT, usually found in the left atrium
Kaposi Sarcoma
unregulated growth of endothelial cells caused by HHV8 from AIDS
Marfan’s Syndrome
autosomal dominant connective tissue disorder with a missense mutation of fibrinnin-1, look for cystic medial degeneration
