Vascular/circulatory System Flashcards
Insulin
a hormone Pancreas makes that helps control blood sugar level and metabolism — turns the food you eat into energy
Hemoglobin
iron: pick up oxygen from air we breathe-> deliver it everywhere in the body (blood vessels transport it)
Vascular system
Made of vessels- carry blood (arteries and veins) and lymph fluid through the body. It’s also called the circulatory system. Sends oxygen and nutrients to tissues
Lymphatic system
In immune system/ complement circulatory system. large network of lymphatic vessels, tissue, lymph nodes, lymphoid organs, and lymph.
-maintains blood pressure
-balance body fluid levels/ defense for infections
-drains watery fluid (lymph)
Hodgkins Lymphoma
a group of blood cancers that affects your lymphatic system (multiplication of B lymphocytes)
Lymphocyte
a type of white blood cell. They play an important role in your immune system, which helps your body fight disease and infection.
-T, B, and innate lymphoid cells
Factor V protein, what are mutated ones?
Necessary for proper blood clotting
-mutated: Factor V Leiden : major contributor to the ischemic, DVT, pulmonary embolism
