What is ischaemia reperfusion injury?

A

Damage caused when blood supply returns to a tissue after a period of ischaemia, can lead to compartment syndrome (functional loss of muscle as a result of ischaemia).

A

Name some causes of chronic venous insufficiency.

A

Primary - congenital defects in vein wall or valvular component
Secondary - defect has occurred due to damage e.g. trauma, post-thrombotic disease, venous outflow obstruction (e.g. pregnancy)
