What is vasa praevia?

A

Unprotected foetal vessels close to the internal cervical OS

Putting them at risk of rupture when membranes rupture (prom time)

What is the pathophysiology of vasa praevia?

A

Velamentous cord insertion (umbilical cord inserts into foetal membanes rather then placenta, then travels with the membranes to the placenta)

A

Foetal anomaly (bilobed placenta)

History of low lying placenta

multiple pregnancy
