What is vasa praevia?
Unprotected foetal vessels close to the internal cervical OS
Putting them at risk of rupture when membranes rupture (prom time)
obstetric emergency
What is the pathophysiology of vasa praevia?
Velamentous cord insertion (umbilical cord inserts into foetal membanes rather then placenta, then travels with the membranes to the placenta)
Risk factors for vasa praevia?
Foetal anomaly (bilobed placenta)
History of low lying placenta
multiple pregnancy
Classic triad in presentation?
Membrane rupture

Foetal bradycardia / foetal death
Investigation for vasa praevia?
Doppler US
Management plan for vasa praevia presenting at rupture
Emergency caesarean section
