Various Flashcards
what are the 3 primary embryological vesicles?
- prosencephalon (forebrain)
- mesencephalon (midrain)
- rhombencephalon (hindbrain)
what does the prosencephalon form?
- telencephalon (-> cerebral hemispheres)
- diencephalon (-> thalamus, 3rd ventricle, hypothalamus)
what does the mesencephalon form?
- midbrain
- colliculi
what does the rhombencephalon form?
- metencephalon (-> cerebellum, pons)
- myelencephalon (-> medulla)
- 4th ventricle
what do the inferior cerebellar peduncles connect and what do they convey?
medulla -> cerebellum
efferent:
- ipsilateral muscle proprioception
- balance
- vestibular inputs
what do the middle cerebellar peduncles connect and what do they convey?
pons -> cerebellum
efferent:
- motor plan (PMC -> cerebellum)
what do the superior cerebellar peduncles connect and what do they convey?
midbrain -> cerebellum
afferent:
- ipsilateral proprioception & balance
efferent:
- dentate nucleus -> red nucleus + thalamus
what are the main arteries that supply the brain and what do they arise from?
- internal carotid (common carotid)
- vertebral (subclavians)
what are the branches of the internal carotid?
- ophthalmic
- posterior communicating
- anterior choroidal
- anterior cerebral
- (continues as) middle cerebral
what are the branches of the vertebral artery?
- meningeal
- anterior & posterior spinal
- posterior inferior cerebellar
- (continues as) basilar (-> posterior cerebrals)
what does the ophthalmic artery supply?
orbit
what does the posterior communicating artery supply?
connecting vessel in the circle of willis
what does the anterior choroidal artery supply?
structures important for motor control & vision
what does the anterior cerebral artery supply?
anteromedial cerebrum
what does the middle cerebral artery supply?
lateral cerebrum
