Vancomycin, telavancin, bacitracin, fosfomycin Flashcards
Vancomycin - MOA
Inhibits transglycosylase, preventing elongation of peptidoglycan and cross-linkage, thus inhibiting cell wall synthesis.
Vancomycin - indications
Bone, joint, skin, soft tissue infections.
Pneumonia, septicemia, endocarditis
Vancomycin - adverse effects
Red man syndrome + hypotension (when infused at excessive rate).
Nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity (vestibular, cochlear)
Bacitracin - MOA
Block the lipid carrier molecule, inhibiting wall synthesis
Bacitracin - Indications
Minor skin & ocular infections
Bacitracin - adverse effects
Nephrotoxic!! not given systemically
Fosfomycin - MOA
Irreversible inhibition of enolpyruvyl transferase, blocking peptidoglycan synthesis
Fosfomycin - Indications
Uncomplicated UTI
