Valvular disease Flashcards
Recall the 3 major types of systolic murmur and the 2 major types of diastolic murmur
Systolic: AS, MR, TR
Diastolic: MS, AR
Recall 4 signs of TR
Pleural effusion
Hepatomegaly
Ascites
Pitting oedema
Where does AS radiate to?
Carotids and apex
how is AS best accentuated OE?
Ask pt to hold breath on EXPIRATION
When in the cardiac cycle is AS or AR heard?
It is an ejection systolic murmur
When in the cardiac cycle is TR heard?
All the way through systole (pansystolic)
When in the cardiac cycle is MR heard?
All the way through systole (pansystolic)
Where does MR radiate to?
Axilla
Which ECG change is specifically seen in TR?
Tall p waves
“Tapping apex beat” is an examination finding in which type of valve disease?
MS
A “collapsing” or “water hammer” pulse is heard in which type of murmur?
AR
Which murmur should be listened to with the bell of the stethoscope?
MS
When in diastole is AR heard?
Early diastole
When in diastole is MS heard?
Mid-diastole
A broad bifid p wave is indicative of which valvular pathology?
MS
