6
Q

Can you use a gate valve for throttling?

A

No, it must be fully open or fully closed or else it will damage itself

Q

What positions can a bonnet be in?

A

It must always be in a up or horizontal position, never downwards.

Bonnet is the frame of a gate valve and other valves

10
Q

When a valve has multiple redirections of the fluid, what happens to the fluid at each redirection?

A

There is a pressure drop every time the fluid changes direction

16
Q

What are the two basic types of check valves?

A

Swing check valves

Lift check valves

17
Q

What a the difference between a pressure relief valve and a pressure safety valve?

A

A pressure relief valve doesn’t open all the way all the time. It has a cracking pressure and a full flow pressure.

Pressure safety valves provide a rapid means of getting rid of excess pressure in piping systems. It is either fully open or fully closed, there is no cracking pressure

18
Q

What is a transducer?

A

A device that measures process variables and provides a signal to a control system for decision making.

Ex.
Flow
Pressure
Temperature
Level
19
Q

What are the different types of valve actuators and which is the most common?

A

Manual

Power

Pneumatic

Hydraulic

Electric

Variable position

Pneumatic actuators are the most common method of power-operating valves

20
Q

How can a leaking valve stem often be fixed?

A

By slightly tightening the packing nut or packing flange.

21
Q

What must you always do before working on a valve?

A

Isolate it from the piping and know what it carries and take appropriate safety precautions
