Validity, Reliability & Sampling Flashcards
What is validity?
A term describing a measure that accurately reflects the concept it is intended to measure or the extent to which the concept one wishes to measure is actually being measured by a scale
What is reliability?
The quality of A measurement method that suggests that the same data would have been collected each time in repeated observations
What is sampling?
A process of selecting observations from a population
What is one challenge that sampling should help to alleviate?
How to generalize groups that are too big to study
What is a sample?
A smaller set of cases the researcher selects from a larger pool and ‘generalizes’’ to the general population in the context of the research question
What is representativeness?
When the sample is arranged in a way that equally portrays all parts of the chosen population
