Validity + Reliability Flashcards
Validity
Interval validity -
-does the experiment measure the true value (no confounding or extraneous variables)
External validity
-can result be generalised to wider population
Researcher bias - researcher carry study out in a way that results are misrepresented to fit researcher narrative- selecting sampling or recording result
Demand characteristics- participant guessed the aim of the better based on certain cues - do study in a way to benefit or sabotage the results
Double blind method
-participant unsure what group they are in
-experimenter unaware of true aim of study
Reliability
Internal reliability -
-did all participant under go the same procedure if they are in same experimental group
-external reliability
-can other repeat the experiment again at a different time and get similar results
Split half method - internal reliability
-split a test in half for different group of people and compare their result
Test-retest method - external reliability
-participant given test again to see do they give similar results
