Hypothesis + Variables Flashcards
Aim
To research on new field, develop on existing ones or disprove a research
Statement of research intention
Directional hypothesis
A hypothesis that expects a clear outcome
-men run faster than women
Non-directional hypothesis
Hypothesis with no clear outcome, only describe there will be a difference
-there will be a difference in running speed between men and women
Null hypothesis
Hypothesis with a prediction that there will be no changes
-there will be no difference in running speed of men and women
Independent + dependent variable
Independent - thing you change
Dependent - thing you don’t change
Operationalising variable
How to change or measure variables
-need a way to manipulate the IV
-need a way to measure to DV
Extraneous + confounding variables
Extraneous - variable not part of IV that can affect the DV - variable affect outcomes of different individuals (IQ)
Confounding - variable not part of IV that did impact the DV - variable affect an entire group of participant (time of day)
