Validity Flashcards
What is content validity?
Whether a measure covers all of the content of an underlying construct.
How can you assess content validity?
Expert feedback (through content validity indices).
What is face validity?
How valid a measure appears on the surface. It’s a face judgment.
How can you assess face validity?
Non-expert perception of relevance.
What is discriminant validity?
Degree to which test scores are uncorrelated with tests of unrelated constructs.
How can you assess discriminant validity?
Correlation (validity coefficients)
What is convergent validity?
Degree to which the construct is similar to other constructs it should theoretically be similar to.
How can you assess convergent validity?
Correlation with similar measures
What is construct validity?
Degree to which the instrument measures the theoretical construct
How can you assess construct validity?
Exploratory/confirmatory factor analysis, MTMM
What is criterion (predictive) validity?
Degree to which the test has the ability to predict future performance
How can you assess criterion (predictive) validity?
Correlate performance on the test with a behaviour in the future
What is criterion (concurrent) validity?
Degree to which the test accurately estimates present performance
How can you assess criterion (concurrent) validity?
Correlate performance on the test with a concurrent behaviour
What is internal validity?
Degree to which observed results of the measure are not caused by extraneous factors
