Test Theory Flashcards
Why is test theory important?
Allows for interpretation of test scores, a way to evaluate tests, and understand how tests behave.
What are the types of response biases?
GAMES-C
Guessing Acquiescence bias Malingering Extreme responding Social desirability Careless responding
What is guessing?
Compromising the quality of the test by guessing and inflating or deflating real scores. Typically happens with consequential testing (e.g., GRE).
What is acquiescence bias?
When all/most item questions are keyed in some direction. “I really love my job” “my job is SO fulfilling”
What is malingering?
When respondents exaggerate their psychological responses
What is extreme bias in responding?
The tendency to avoid or use extreme response options, so it’s difficult to understand true construct levels.
What is the social desirability bias?
The tendency for a person to respond in such a way that seems socially appealing, regardless of their true characteristics.
What is careless responding bias?
When a respondent just randomly answers the items, maybe from a lack of motivation to complete the survey.
