This is a simile because it implies that the onion will blind you with tears implies that the onion will literally blind you with tears because an onion can make you cry because of the fumes. Like a lover implies that a relationship with someone will fill you with tears like and onion would.

This compares an onion to an affectionate kiss from a lover as an onion lingers in your mouth as the taste is so fierce. A affectionate kiss can be fierce as it shows how much two people love each other.

This tells us that the relationship might not last too long and it could end positive or negative.
“It’s platinum loops shrink to a wedding ring, if you like.”
This implies that this person isn’t too forceful to if their lover will propose to marriage.
