-auricular
function- sensory innervation of the skin of the external auditory meatus and ear

-Pharyngeal (plexus)
function- sensory & motor [nucleus ambiguus of the medulla] innervation of the all the muscles of the pharynx [except the stylopharyngeus] and the palate [except the tensor palatini]

-Carotid n.
function- sensory innervation of the carotid sinus and body
Branches in the neck & mediastinum
-Superior laryngeal
i. Internal laryngeal n. (sensory)
function- sensory to the mucosa of the oral & laryngeal pharynx, epiglottis and larynx and taste to epiglottis
ii. External laryngeal n. (motor)
function- motor innervation of the cricothyroid, and inferior constrictor muscles

-Recurrent laryngeal n.
function- sensory motor innervation of all but two of the muscles of the larynx; sensory innervation of the mucosa of the trachea and larynx
