Vagina 2 Origins and Epithelium Difference
Lower 2/3 - urogenital sinus, squamos
Upper 1/3 - Mullerian duct, columnar. HOWEVER should get replaced with squamos during development
2 Complications of DES Exposure in Utero
Adenosis - persistence of columnar epithelium in upper 1/3 of vagina
Can lead to: Clear Cell Adenocarcinoma. Malignant proliferation of glands with clear cytoplasm
Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma (what it is, presentation, 3 histo (including 2 stains))
Malignant mesenchymal prolif of immature skeletal muscle
Presents as bleeding grape-like mass protruding from vagina or penis of child under 5 yo (MIGHT SHOW PIC)
Rhabdomyoblast, characteristic cell, shows cytoplasmic cross striations
Desmin + (because muscle) and myoglobin +
Vaginal Carcinoma (risk factor, precursor lesion, 2 lymph node spreads)
Exposure to high risk HPV 16 and 18 (and 31 33)
VAIN
Lower 2/3 - inguinal lymph nodes
Upper 1/3 - regional iliac nodes
