Vaccines Flashcards
diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis
Dtap
causes a thick covering in the back of the throat. It can lead to breathing problems, paralysis, heart failure, and even death.
diphtheria
is a highly contagious respiratory tract infection. Although it initially resembles an ordinary cold, whooping cough may eventually turn more serious, particularly in infants.
Whooping cough — known medically as pertussis
Haemophilus influenzae disease is any type of infection caused by Haemophilus influenzae bacteria.
HIB
Liver infection transmitted when blood, semen, or another body fluid from a person infected with the virus enters the body of someone who is not infected. This can happen through sexual contact; sharing needles, syringes, or other drug-injection equipment; or from mother to baby at birth. For some people, it is an acute, or short-term, illness but for others, it can become a long-term, chronic infection. Risk for chronic infection is related to age at infection: approximately 90% of infected infants become chronically infected, compared with 2%–6% of adults. Chronic infection can lead to serious health issues, like cirrhosis or liver cancer.
Hep B
liver infection through stool
Hep A
type of infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria
