vaccination Flashcards
what is active immunity
own body
when immune system is activated and manufactures its own antibodies
what is artificial immunity
medical
immunity achieved as a result of medical intervention
what is natural immunity
natural/ normal life process
immunity achieved through untouched life processes
what is passive immunity
been given the antibodies
achieved when antibodies are passed to individual by injection or breastfeeding
give example of natural active
antibodies produced from immune system when infection occurs
give e.g. of natural passive immunity
breast feed
e..g of artificial active
vaccination- injected with weak or dead pathogen and body stimulates immune response and makes antibodies to respond
what is artificial passive
injection of antibodies
what is epidemic
rapid spread of disease through high amount of population
what is a vaccination
provide immunity- type of artificial active immunity
usually inject weak/ dead pathogen to initiate someone immune response to develop correct antibodies
what is herd vaccination
use vaccine to provide immunity to all of population at risk, once enough have been vaccinated, disease cant spread
what is herd immunity
when disease can no longer spread through population as a result of herd vaccination
what is ring vaccination
when a new case of disease is reported. vaccinate all people in vicinity of case, surrounding villages or houses.
what disease can undergo genetic mutations to change their antigens
influenza- virus
what pathogen causes influenza
virus
