Q

what is a callose

what is a tylose

A

callose- large polysaccharide which is deposited in sieve tubes blocking flow and prevents spread of pathogen

Tylose- Balloon like swelling filling the xylem to stop it carrying water, prevents the spread of pathogens in water.

Q

how do these functions prevent pathogens

-cell wall
-lignin
-stomatal closure

A

Cellulose cell wall- physical barrier and contains chemical defences which activate when pathogen is detected

Lignin- indigestable and waterproof

Stomata- Guard cells close stomata when pathogens are detected near by

Q

How do these features of passive defence prevent pathogen

Waxy cuticle
bark

A

Bark- contains chemical defences

Waxy cuticle- prevents water collecting on leaf, pathogens need water to survive, therefore cant enter due to lack of water
