antibody Flashcards
what are the three main groups of antibodies working in different ways
opsonin
agglutinin (glue)
anti-toxin
what is the bond in the antibody and hwat does it do
disulfide bridge
hold heavy polypeptide chain and light polypeptide chain together
antibodies are specific to the
antigen
antibodies are immunoglobulin what does that mean
globular proteins which respond to infection
what is the difference between the variable region and constant
constant region is the same in all antibodies, same amino acid sequence
variable- different in every antibody as that region needs to be specific to an antigen.
what does the hinge region do
allows flexibility of the antibody
can grip multiple antigens
what does agglutinin do
antibody binds to two pathogens at a time, when many antibodies do this they can clump together making it easy for the pathogens to be engulfed by phagocytes.
what are antitoxin
antibodies which bind to pathogens and render then harmless
what are opsonin
antibodies which bind to pathogen antigens and act for a binding site for phagocytes, for easy binding
