V Speeds Flashcards
Vr
Rotation Speed
VLOF
1) Lift‐off speed.
2) Airplane leaves the surface.
3) Some manufacturers reference takeoff performance data to VR, others to VLOF.
VX
Best angle of climb speed.
VXSE
Best angle‐of‐climb speed with one engine inoperative.
VY
Best rate of climb speed.
VSSE
1) Safe, intentional one‐engine‐inoperative speed.
2) minimum speed to intentionally render the critical engine
VYSE
1) Marked with a blue radial line
2) Best rate‐of‐climb speed with one engine inoperative.
what is the legal requirements for VSSE?
Required by 14 CFR Part 23, Airworthiness Standards, to be established and
published in the AFM/POH.
VMC
1) Minimum control speed with the critical engine inoperative.
2) Marked with a red radial line
What is the purpose of VMC?
1) Only for directional control. 2) There is no requirement that the airplane be
capable of climbing at this airspeed.
What do you need to do if engine fails below VMC?
1) on the ground, the takeoff must be rejected.
Engine out below VMC, how can you keep the directional control?
promptly closing both throttles and using rudder and brakes as required.
what is the first priority after the take off?
1) gain altitude as rapidly as possible.
2) Once leaving the ground, altitude gain is
more important than achieving excess of airspeed
