V Shaped Valleys Flashcards
1
Q
How are v shaped valleys produced
A
They’re produced as the river erodes the bed. The river erodes vertically, producing steep valley sides
2
Q
First part of formation
A
A river’s discharge is low in the upper course and so the river only has enough energy to erode downwards
3
Q
2nd part of formation
A
The valley sides are slowly broken down through weathering
4
Q
3rd part of the formation
A
The weathered material’s transported via gravity are rainfall towards the river channel. This process steepens the valley
5
Q
4th part of formation
A
This steep sided and narrow valley shape that’s created is typical ofupland rivers
6
Q
What are interlocking spurs?
A
They’re areas of land that alternate from either side of a v shaped valley
