Benefits of UX Research
- To make relevant designs for users (functional and non-functional requirements)
- To make designs which are easy and pleasurable to use
- To understand the return-on-investment (ROI) of UX (user evaluation)
Research Techniques
Interviews (structured, unstructured, and semi- structured)
Questionnaires (asynchronously, nominal, raking, rating, open questions)
Observation (ethnography –> immersing the researcher in a group they study), Think aloud –> direct observation, indirect observation (web analytics, diaries)
Lo-Fi (don’t show full functionality and simulate interactions) & Hi-Fi Prototypes
Research without Users: storyboards, user stories, personas, scenarios, user journey mapping,
Heuristic evaluation, cognitive walkthrough, A/B testing
–> topic, end goal, external factors (availability, ressources, homogenous group, anonymity)
UX Testing
Research goal: product stage of lifecycle , formative evaluation (during the design process to inform the team), informative evaluation
