asymptomatic bacteriuria management
A
e.g. nitrofurantoin or cefalexin
If group B streptococcal bacteriuria –> maternal intrapartum prophylactic antibiotics

why do i need treatment if i feel okay?
A
It is recommended to treat asymptomatic bacteriuria with antibiotics as it has been shown to increase risk of spontaneous miscarriage and preterm labour
reduce the risk of transmission to the foetus during labour

antibiotics safe to use in breastfeeding
A
trimethoprim for UTI
(others include penicillin & cephalosporin)
(Anything but tetracycline)
