flouroquinolone (-ofloxacin) x 7 days or Bactrim x 7 days

Third line therapy for UTI
Urine culture is then done. Treatment is based off of culture results IF pt has 2 or less UTI a year. Greater than 3 you may want to consider self treatment or a prophalactic of Bactrim Nitrofuratonin or norfloxacin

As estrogen decreases, vaginal flora increases in post menopausal women. LActobacilli decreases and pH increases

what treatment is appropriate for UTI in pregnancy
Amoxicillin is safest.
Cephalexin, nitrofuratonin, sulfonamides, are not to be used in third trimester

floroquinalone 10-14 days OR TMP-SMZ. culture should be done before starting therapy.
Second line for uncomplicated pyelonephritis
oral therapy for 2-6wk
