Shock and burns Flashcards
What is shock?
Shock is a systemic disorder involving significantly reduced perfusion of all of the body’s tissues and organs. Ultimately, shock affects the cardiovascular system in some way, but does not necessarily originate there.
obstructive Shock
large PE
distributed shock
neurogenic, anaphylactic, septic
cariogenic shock
MI, arrhythmia, tamponade, acute LH failure, Acute valve disorder
in all types of cardiogenic shock, cardiac output experiences a sudden and significant decrease. At the same time that blood flow forward to the systemic circulation drops off, there will be a backup of blood flow and volume into the pulmonary circulation, resulting in significant pulmonary edema.
Very high mortality rate
impairment of metabolic acidosis causes…
Basically, as cells become hypoxic and produce lactic acid, they experience increasing problems accessing and utilizing oxygen. In addition to the reduced delivery and diffusion of glucose out of the blood to the cells, many types of shock also impair the ability of cells to access or absorb glucose and cause derangement with the hormones that affect fat breakdown, glucose use, and glycogen storage and breakdown.
