Uses of Glucose from Photosynthesis Flashcards
Uses of glucose from Photosynthesis
. To release energy in respiration that takes place in the mitochondria, photosynthesis only produces glucose during the day when there is light , but plant cells respire all the time including at night
. Another use glucose is to produce the insoluble storage molecule starch which can be converted back to glucose by the plant when it is needed
.
Fats and oils
In many plants, the glucose produced by photosynthesis is converted into fats and oils which are used by plants as a storage form of energy
Cell wall
The cell wall contains cellulose which gives it strength which is made from the glucose produced by photosynthesis
Amino acids
. The glucose produced in photosynthesis can be used to make amino acids which are used by the plant to synthesize proteins.
. To make amino acids from glucose, plants need to absorb nitrate ions from the soil
