Rotterdam 1981. Orginally formed to protest against forced detox; operated first needle exchanges.
What is the Methadone Alliance?
UK 1990s, - The Alliance Orignally formed to support people with difficulty accessing OST (long waiting lists) and receiving sub optimal care.
What is INPUD?
International Network of People who Use Drugs.
What are the aims of INPUD?
Enable and empower people who use drugs legal or deemed illegal worldwide to survive, thrive and exert their voices as human beings and have meaningful input into all decisions that affect their own lives.
What did Section 11 of the Health & Social Care Act 2001 place onto NHS organisations?
Section 11 Health & Social Care Act 2001 placed a duty on NHS organisations to make arrangements to involve and consult patients and the public in planning services, developing and considering proposals for changes in the way those services are provided and decisions to be made that affect how those services operate.
What did the Health and Social Care Act 2012 state?
Each clinical commissioning group must, in the exercise of its functions, promote the involvement of patients, and their carers and representatives (if any), in decisiones which relate to:
a) the prevention or diagnosis of illness in the patients, or
b) their care or treatment.
What is RELEASE?
Legal advice for drugs misurers.
Involving users and carers is not an end in and of itself but a way of achieving three fundamental objectives:
Strengthened accountability to all stakeholders.
Ensuring services genuinely respond to the needs of users and carers.
Creating a sense of ownership and trust (which promotes engagement).
Why would we involved INPUD? What is the point?
Ensure services are relevant to local needs.
Ensure services are accountable to service users.
Enable service users to voice their opinion on services and identify good practice and areas of concern
Provide a vehicle through which consultation on future action plans can be undertaken
What is tokenism?
Being able to tick a box saying service users were involved with plans/projects.
