James Monroe
Democratic Republican - 1817-1825
Monroe Doctrine, 1823, a statement issued to the world that any attempt to settle in or around the US would be seen as an act of war. Was an open statement that American was not open for colonization anymore.
He was President during the Era of Good Feelings
Was President when the Missouri Compromise was passed, limited the spread of slavery.
The first major financial crisis , the Panic of 1819, happened during his Presidency

Martin Van Buren

President during the infamous “Trail of Tears” disaster
President during the Amistad takeover – return of kidnapped slaves

William Henry Harrison
Whig - 1841
Studied to be a medical doctor
Was Governor of the Indiana Territory, and a US Representative and later the Senate for Ohio.
Earned himself a reputation as an Indian fighter by winning the Battle of Tippacanoe and gained the nickname “Tippacanoe”.
Delivered the longest inaugural address in history
First President to die while in office – 32 days, died of pnueumonia.
John Tyler
Whig – 1841-1845
Served as a State Legislature, Governor, US Representative and Senator for Virginia.
Was nicknamed “His Accidency” since he became President as the result of Harrison’s death.
The House of Representatives initiated the first ever impeachment proceedings against him.
Fun Fact: After his Presidency, he sided with the Confederate gov’t and even won election to the Confederate House of Representatives
