A
Appearance of intensely itchy erythematous plaques (hives) appearing as palve, itchy, blanching swellings of dermis

A
Acute: < 6 weeks
Chronic: > 6 weeks.

What are causes of urticaria?
A
Infections
Allergens e.g. food, latex, medication
Systemic disease

What are the different molecular causes of urticaria?
A
Type 1 hypersensitivity reaction IgE
Non-immune mediated, direct mast cell degranulation

What are urgent considerations in patients with urticaria?
A
Anaphlaxis
Angioedema
Both can cause airway obstruction and death.

A
Skin prick (possible allergens) Blood RAST: IgE antibodies

A
Antihistamines
Steroids
