reduce prostatic enlargement and improves urinary flow (inhibits dihydrotestosterone), can take a while to work tho
indications for finasteride/5alpha-reductase inhibitors?
BPH - second line treatment after alpha blocker
improve lower UTI symptoms
reduce need for prostate related surgery
contraindications for finasteride/5alpha-reductase inhibitors?
feotus = abnormal external genitalia
so not in pregnant women or men wanting to conceive
side effects of finasteride/5alpha-reductase inhibitors?
impotence
reduced libido
gynaecomastia
androgen inhibition - prevents male pattern balding
breast cancer in men
