infectious inflammatory condition of the kidney
signs and sx of pyelonephritis?
fever
flank pain
CVA tenderness
irritative voiding sx
shaking chills
N/v
CBC results on pyelonephritis?
leukocytosis with left shift
UA results of pyelonephritis?
pyuria
bacteriuria
hematuria
white cell casts
culture will have heavy growth of the offending organism
what may be seen on renal ultrasound with pyelonephritis?
hydronephrosis (fluid in the kidneys)
what is the treatment for pyelonephritis?
Inpatient:
Ampicillin, Gentamicin
Outpatient:
Cipro, Levo
pyridium as analgesis
disposition of a pyelonephritis?
MEDEVAC
especially with:
sepsis
no improvement in 48hrs
evidence of obstructions
what is acute prostatitis
inflammation and infection of the prostate gland
what is the most likely route of infection of the prostate?
ascent up the urethra
reflux
lymphatic and hematogenous routes are rate
signs and SX of acute prostatitis?
perineal, sacral, and suprapubic pain.
