ESWL (extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy)
-breaks the calculi so that fragments can pass down the ureter into the bladder and through the urethra during voiding
-stone fragments in urine are expected after
Glomerulonephritis
-renal kidney disease that damages the glomeruli of the kidney
-usually followed by strep throat or tonsillitis/pharyngitis
-coca-cola or tea-colored urine
-edema
-oliguria (too little pee) or anuria (no pee)
-elevated BUN and creatinine
-flank or abdominal pain
-anemia
-hyperkalemia (present in chronic glomerulonephritis)
-treatment:
bed rest
restrict fluids because kidney is damaged
increase calories
reduce protein, potassium, and phosphorus intake
reduce sodium intake
monitor daily weight
meds: penicillin, corticosteroids, antihypertensives
Dialysis Treatment
-correct acidosis
-patient can return to previous activity after successful treatment
-weigh client daily before and after procedure
-monitor for peritonitis
-monitor for bladder perforation
-monitor for hypotension
-peritoneal dialysis:
remove waste, electrolytes, and waste products from blood
void prior to procedure
warm dialysate prior to with heating pad, NOT MICROWAVE
allow to flow by gravity
30 min of dwell time
REPORT CLOUDY DRAINAGE
-continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis
no machine
4-8 hours of dwell time
