Increased ICP
-Presentation:
early sign = change in LOC such as lethargy, restlessness, confusion, drowsiness, motor and sensory changes)
pupils: dilated, unequal, nonreactive
cushing’s triad: hypertension with widening pulse pressure (big difference between top and bottom number), bradycardia, irregular breathing (Cheyne-Stokes respiration)
-Treatment:
keep head of bed elevated 30 - 45 degrees (semi-fowler’s)
avoid coughing
administer o2
may restrict fluids
decrease environmental stimuli
meds: avoid opiots, give barbs to sedate, tylenol for fever, osmotic diuretics
use log rolling to reposition client and avoid hip flexion
Cushing’s Triad: opposite of addesonian crisis (AC presents similar to shock)
- increased ICP = increase BP, Decrease HR
