measles

A

Spread via droplets and vaccine preventable disease

Pro-drome (precedes the rash by 2-3 days):

  • Classic “3 C’s” (SevereCough(dry, hacking); Coryza(Rhinitis); Conjunctivitis; HighFever(up to 105 F or 40.5 C)
  • Malaise
  • Irritability
  • Photophobia

Koplik spots in the mouth (precedes the prodromal phase) and is indicative of measles!

Rash spreads from forehead to trunk and then to extremities (1-2 days later). Patients are contagious 4 days prior to rash onset. Rash is blanchable!

A

MONO! Need to do a rapid mono spot! Rapid mono spots are not as effective on children less than 12yo because they don’t make herdophil antibodies which the tests looks for .
