What are the effects of urecholine?
Treat urinary retention, abdominal distension
How does urecholine achieve effects (what is the mode of action)?
Stimulate muscarinic receptors to promote contraction of the bladder, increase GI peristalsis, GI secretion, pupillary constriction, and bronchoconstriction
Which drug decreases effect of urecholine?
Antidysrhythmics
Who is it contraindicated from?
Intestinal or urinary tract obstruction, severe bradycardia, hypotension, COPD, asthma, peptic ulcer, parkinsonism, urinary retention
Where is it absorbed?
If given orally, it is poorly absorbed from the GI tract
In how many minutes or hours will the client void after taking an oral dose of urecholine?
30 mins to 1.5 hours
Should the drug be given with or no food?
It should be given in an empty stomach
Which routes of administration are used and not used?
Oral and subQ. It should not be given IM and IV
When is the onset if given orally?
0.5 to 1.5 hours
When is the peak if given orally?
1 to 2 hours
How long is the duration of urecholine?
4 to 6 hours
When is the onset if given subQ?
5 to 15 minutes
When is the peak if given subQ?
30 minutes
How long is the duration if given subQ?
2 hours
What are the side effects?
Hypotension, bradycardia, blurred vision, excessive salivation, increased gastric acid secretion, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, bronchoconstriction, cardiac dysrhythmias
