Reversible Indirect-Acting Cholinergic Agonist Drugs Flashcards
Which conditions do reversible cholinesterase inhibitors used for?
Produce pupillary constriction in the treatment of glaucoma and to increase muscle strenth in clients with myasthenia gravis
Which drugs are used to treat myasthenia gravis?
Edrophonium scholoride (Tensilon), Ambenomium chloride (Mytelase), Pyridostigmine bromide (Mestinon)
What causes myasthenia gravis?
It is an autoimmune disorder where traveling antibodies block muscle receptors, preventing acetylcholine to stimulate the muscles
What are the reversible cholinesterase inhibitor drugs?
Physostigmine (Antilirium) or Ophthalmic form (Isopto Eserine)
What are the contraindications of taking reversible cholinesterase inhibitors?
Use caution when giving it to clients who have bradycardia, asthma, peptic ulcers, or hyperthyroidism. They are also contraindicated to clients with intestinal or urinary obstruction
