Q

what are the negative impacts of urbanisation

A
  • not enough housing for migrants, or they can’t afford to buy or rent

  • migrants often build their own houses, leads to unregulated growth of slums or shanty towns (leads to further problems)
  • high competition for good jobs in the formal sector, migrants may have to accept low wages
  • migrants may be forced to work in informal sector that don’t pay well
  • rapid population increase puts pressure on roads and railways increasing congestion and air pollution
