they are often where the government is situated and the TNC’s which make a lot of political decisions and have a lot of influence on people all over the world
suburbanisation
movement of people from the middle of the city to the edges. city centres had become crowded and polluted suburbs offer green spaces and are more family friendly they also have better transport and easy travel
deindustrialisation
manufacturing moves either to outside the city where rents are cheaper or abroad. can lead to depopulation as people leave in search of work the city centre declines leading to unemployment and a poor living environment
counter inustrialisation
movement of people away from urban areas, higher quality of life in rural areas. house prices may be cheaper here , improvements in communications means people can work from home, some companies can move to rural areas where land is cheaper
regeneration
some cities have undergone regeneration to reverse the decline of urban areas.
attracting new businesses back to the area
converting old factories into flats
young single people often want to live close to work and entertainment
densely populated
a packed area where lots of people live
