What is urban form?
The physical characteristics of built up areas.
What is urban morphology?
Refers to the shape and appearance of urban centers. It is the result of urban dynamics and processes.
Give an example of urban form.
Relief (flat or steep land)
How does the population impact urban change?
The growth of the population is difficult to predict and manage. The inability to keep up leads to shortfalls of schools, houses and services ect.
How does the environment impact urban change?
Established physical infrastructure like sewer systems need to keep up with population growth.
How does the economy impact urban change?
The industry has tended to locate in centers of a large population. For example, as the population has moved from inner city to the suburbs, so has industries.
How does technology impact urban change?
Some industries will be pulled to areas with wired networks or data where there is high speed access to the internet.
How does policies impact urban change?
Government policies affecting housing, planning, transport and the economy will restrict or encourage changes.
